The Department of English Teaching for Science and Technology was established in 2000, which is one of the earliest teaching departments in the existing teaching and research department of the School of Foreign Languages. The Teaching department has 4 full-time teachers, including 2 two associate professors and two lecturers,there are also 4 part-time teachers, including 2 professors and 2 foreign teachers.

The Department of English Teaching for Science and Technology is mainly responsible for the late stage college English (English for Specific Purposes) teaching and postgraduate English teaching. It is responsible for the teaching of basic medical English, clinical Medical English, Medical English Listening and speaking, academic English, Tourism English and other courses for undergraduate students, as well as the comprehensive English courses and listening courses for full-time master students and graduate students of the same academic level (applying for master's degree on the job). Medical English Teaching

The teaching department has always attached great importance to teaching reform and practice, endeavored to explore the suitable ESP teaching mode, improve the efficiency of teaching, and strengthen the cultivation of college students' English language application ability.

Medical English course is a elective course for college English application. The purpose of this course is to enable undergraduates to consolidate and improve their English language ability and strengthen their basic language skills through professional English learning. This course is an introduction to medical English. Through the study of authentic materials and literature, students can get familiar with the characteristics and rules of medical English, learn the word-formation of medical English terms and memorize a certain number of roots, prefixes and suffixes, master professional English reading skills, strengthen listening and speaking ability, especially the practical application ability of participating in professional activities, have a basic understanding of the thesis writing in medicine. Through the study of this course, students can lay a foundation for further study or self-study of professional knowledge when working in the future, and finally be able to use English as a tool to read professional literature, carry out international exchanges, and obtain foreign language information required by their majors.

Graduate English Teaching

The Department of English Teaching for Science and Technology is responsible for the comprehensive English teaching of academic masters and professional masters in our university. In recent years, under the leadership of the Graduate Department and the School of Foreign Languages, through joint efforts and continuous reform, remarkable teaching achievements have been made.

Teaching reforms have been promoted at different levels. With the support of the Graduate Department, the teaching department implemented the stratified teaching earlier and adhered to it for a long time. The pertinence of teaching contents, teaching methods and examination has been enhanced through 2 to 3 different levels of class teaching, all of which has improved the teaching effect, so that all students have benefited significantly from the study.

Emphasis has been placed on the cultivation of thinking and ability in English writing for academic papers. On the basis of traditional language teaching, the content of English academic paper writing is appropriately supplemented in the second semester of postgraduate study, so as to guide postgraduate students to change their mindset about academic writing in English context and cultivate their ability to use English for academic writing.

To study and learn from the new teaching ideas and methods at home and abroad. We attach importance to the attempt of combining new teaching methods with traditional ones as well as with the reality. A lot of practice has been carried out such as flipped classroom, micro-class teaching, task-based teaching method and other methods, striving to make greater breakthroughs in teaching concept, teaching design, educational technology, teaching methods and other aspects, so that the teaching mode is more conducive to the improvement of students' practical English ability and the improvement of students' comprehensive quality.

Attach importance to the application of modern educational technology. Teachers were trained in web page making and other skills. In the course of reading and other courses, the teaching mode of combining network courseware assistance with autonomous learning has been practiced, and certain results have been achieved. Teachers have also made attempts to use network resources to assist teaching.

Attach importance to and persevere in scientific research.

Taking the construction of corpus as an opportunity, relying on the teaching of medical English and academic English, the teaching department has gradually formed English for Academic Purposes (EAP) research team with medical English as the characteristics of our university.

For a long time, the teaching department has always adhered to the guideline that teaching is the focus and quality of teaching is the goal. Teachers have overcome the difficulties of insufficient allocation of teachers to undertake heavy workload of teaching, and have made great contributions to the English teaching of our university.
