School of Foreign Languages, Shandong First Medical University

The School of Foreign Languages of Shandong First Medical University was founded in 2001. It was formerly the Foreign Languages Department of Taishan Medical University, and was renamed the School of Foreign Languages of Taishan Medical University in 2005. Now, with 1062 registered students, it offers four undergraduate majors including English, Russian, Translation, and Tourism Management and has English, Japanese, and Russian as its teaching languages.

There are seven departments in the School of Foreign Languages, including English Department, Russian Department, Translation Department, Tourism Management Department, College English Teaching Department, Scientific English Teaching Department, and Foreign Languages Audio-Visual Technology Center, as well as three training laboratories such as simultaneous interpretation laboratory and tourism training room. There are currently 82 faculty and staff members, including nine Party and administrative personnel, one teaching assistant, five professors, 33 associate professors, one post-doctor, six PhDs, and five PhD candidates. More than 70 teachers have master's degrees or above, and about eight foreign teachers are hired every year.

The faculty undertake more than 20 provincial and departmental scientific research projects on average each year, more than ten provincial and ministerial teaching projects, win more than 30 national, provincial and ministerial teaching and scientific research awards on average each year, and are the authors or co-authors of more than 10 national and provincial standard textbooks.

The school attaches great importance to the academic atmosphere and regularly holds activities like Foreign Language Culture and Art Festival. Many students have won awards in national foreign language speech contests, reading contests, writing contests, and tourism service skills competitions.

The school also pays attention to international exchange and cooperation, hiring in total about 100 foreign teachers these years, establishing the "Belt and Road" Foreign Exchange Service Center, sending more than 70 students to Russia for further study and more than 80 students in exchange programs to countries and regions including Russia, the United Kingdom, and Taiwan.
